Today, I decided to try my hand at faking a tin-type. I have always been interested in genealogy and staring at all the history in those photos has always fascinated me. Not only history as in the era, but also the photographic processes used to take the photos. Tin types were produced by taking a very underexposed negative image and producing it on a thin iron plate. The plate was then blackened by painting, lacquering or enamelling, and coated with a collodion photographic emulsion. Although tin-types were typical sepia or black and white, I wanted to add some color in my photo.
My goal in this project was to project that classic feel of a time long past. A time that perhaps held some secret...some story. Only problem was I had no model. So, I had to do a selfie! Not my favorite thing to do for sure, and it took way longer than I'd hoped to get the picture I wanted (and of course I still wasn't happy with it as you can tell from my expression!). Overall I think the process was fun and would like to explore this a little further at a later date.
